FAA Spec L-807 windsocks
Here are the windsocks I made for use in my projects. They are built to FAA specifications and have varying windspeeds animated in. There are two versions, one that is meant to be lit from outside, and another that has an emissive texture to simulate being lit from the inside.
Rather than provide them as a downloadable library, these are the files that you will add as a set of SimObjects (not regular objects!) in your own projects so users will not depend on them externally.
THE POLES ARE NOT INCLUDED. These are meant to be strapped up to any custom structure you design yourself. They can go on poles, on hangars, wherever you want. If enough folks are interested, I can upload some of the poles I've made.
I have preserved the file sturcture I use. The folders are named XXX- and you'll need to replace that with, for example, your own airport identifier.
IMPORTANT: When setting these up for use, you will need to open the .xml file in the model folders and replace all of the GUIDs for the model and the animation. They appear to need to be different for every project you make. You can find tons of online GUID generators, just generate a handful and swap them out.
Creating this was important to me for the accuracy of my own projects, and I believe will improve the accuracy of others' as well. As such, these are FREE FREE FREE TO USE for both FREEWARE AND PAYWARE projects. If you want to drop me a credit, cool. I just want to see how you use them so send me screenshots!
Another mod, which is only targeted to update the default MSFS windsock, has some PSD texture files including in its distribution that could help, maybe ? : https://flightsim.to/file/7415/windsock-colours

Question: I don't know what to do with the sim.cfg and model.cfg files include in the .zip. I'm used to .xml/.bin/.gltf and the associates textures that I put in my modelLib folder to get compile, but never have to handle these .cfg files.
First raw test (without dealing with the .cfg files) shows that the animation of wind speed works but direction doesn't work 😉 See: https://i.imgur.com/B80UJ6i.jpeg
