If you are looking for a new place to fly in the Mount Rushmore area, you might want to check out 3V0 Custer State Park Airport. This airport was owned by Custer State Park and offered a convenient way to access the park by air. Unfortunately, the real airport was shut down in late 2023. However, you can still enjoy it in flight simulation thanks to this scenery.
How to Install
Installing this scenery is easy. Just follow these steps:
- Download the zip file and extract it.
- Copy the folder “tumbleweed-airport-3v0-fairburn” and paste it into your Community folder.
- Launch your flight simulator and search for 3V0.
What to Expect
This scenery aims to recreate 3V0 as realistically as possible. It includes:
- A fully rebuilt runway, taxiway and apron with custom runway markings.
- Custom objects such as barn, shed and what I believe is an outhouse.
- Refined terrain around the airport, based on 1m resolution USGS elevation data (covering an area of about 3nm north, 1nm south, 4nm east and west).
No mandatory dependencies, but Superspud’s Animated Human 3D Models Library is recommended so you get to see some people and animals around the airport. The bisons are actually highland cows, but they look close enough.
Textures from 3Dtextures.me, texturecan.com and ambientCG.com, licensed under CC0 1.0. All trademarks, logos and brand names belong to their respective owners and are used only for realism purposes.
The elevation data is from USGS and was converted to MSFS using FoxtrotScenery’s Elevation Editor, a great tool for terrain editing.
Have Fun!
I hope you enjoy flying to and from 3V0 Custer State Park Airport. It is a beautiful place to explore and admire the nature and wildlife. Don’t forget to visit Mount Rushmore while you are there!
