Emirau base was constructed in March 1944 with two sealed 7000' runways serving fighters and bombers. This major base contained housing, hospitals, repair facilities, fuel storage and adjacent PT boat base.

My depiction of the base is two-fold. The airfields and attached taxiways, dispersals etc. were still in reasonable order when I visited in 1970 as depicted. The base infrastructure and wreckage is set around 1952 and was cleared by salvage contractors and scavengers over the next couple of years. In 1970 little remained except for overgrown runways and hardstands. The jungle takes little time to clean up.
Interesting: Airfield is incorrectly spelled in MSFS as Emirua Correct spelling is Emirau
NOTE: make sure you have these two libraries installed in your community folder!

My memories of PNG are from long ago and my scenery reflects this. Would be interesting to revisit where I grew up but I'd probably be disappointed. Wish they hadn't knocked over all tropical forests to grow palm oil though!
Safe landings
Cheers
